African Drumming 101This full-day workshop is conducted by Moussa Bangoura, assisted by Sekou Camara.  It will be a hands-on introduction for participants to an assortment of West African drums and musical instruments. During the course of the workshop, we will rotate through many instruments and parts of the African drumming circle so participants gain a concept of the whole process as well as familiarity with each of the parts.  As in many things, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

The workshop will be repeated in the future to create a high degree of confidence, competence and satisfaction in participants in this very creative and important mode of self-expression and cooperation. There is much more to be learned here than just drumming or musical skills. There is a world of non-verbal communication in which you will take part and be trained.

The workshop runs from 3:00 until 9:00. Bring food, beverages and snacks, and/or potluck to share. There will be a campfire at sunset and the drum circle will continue after dark when external vision recedes, and both internal ‘vision’ and auditory and non-verbal sensitivity increases.  No alcohol please.
