Cooking 101S – Hardy Soups

Dorothy Rose LecturingMost edible root vegetables have many healing qualities.  Beets provide many antioxidants and also support the body’s detoxification process.  Burdock root, or gobo, has inulin (a pre-biotic) and lots of minerals due to its long tap root.  It is also a blood purifier, boosts the immune system and has diuretic properties. In this class participants will learn to make ‘Bieler Broth’ from just four vegetables, created in the 1930s by Dr. Henry Bieler for use with his cancer patients.  He felt that this broth was ideal for restoring acid-alkaline and sodium-potassium balance to organs and glands.  Bieler broth is highly recommended for those under stress or suffering from stress-related conditions. Purple Sweet Potato Soup: The dominant purple color of the purple sweet potato represents high contents of anthocyanin, a pigment has anti-aging and antioxidant components as well as anti-cancer compounds.
